MY THREE THINGS. I REFUSE TO GET FRAZZLED!

BUSY LIFE.

NOT ENOUGH TIME.

TRAFFIC IS CRAZY.

  APPROACHING DEADLINES.

  MISSED DEADLINES.

LOST SHOES.

WHAT DID I JUST COME INTO THIS ROOM FOR?

MY PARENTS NEED ME TO COME TO THEIR HOUSE TO SHOW THEM FOR THE MILLIONTH TIME HOW TO USE THEIR SMART TV THEY INSISTED ON HAVING. RIGHT NOW IT’S STUCK ON A PORN CHANNEL! (HOW???)

I got screwed up on my laundry schedule during the Holidays.

DAY 2 OF THE NEW YEAR!

I REFUSE TO GET FRAZZLED!

This year, I refuse to get frazzled!

It’s not worth the stress and it helps nothing.

In fact, it can make things worse.

When stressed, I will just play a song in my head if I’m in a situation where turning music on isn’t possible.

I will do my yoga and meditation breathing.

I will start thinking of three things I’m grateful for every day.

Even if it’s small things.

COFFEE. Wait, that’s NOT a small thing!

Bubble gum.

The purring of cats.

************************************************************************

I also have to take responsibility with my lack of organization.

It is time to rid out the old and be more careful about what new I bring in.

What are your three things for today?

NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER

NEVER JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER

NO, NOT EVEN THIS ONE…

As most of you know, I have a love/hate relationship with social networking. As an introvert, I do enjoy the perks of technology, such as texting instead of having to look for an excuse to politely get off the phone with a long winded friend.

I love keeping in touch with real world friends, and with social networking only friends.

But, especially this year, with the political scene so insane, I’ve been leaning more towards dislike of social networking.

I really feel that social networking has turned us into different people.

Just the other day, I commented on Twitter about a parenting app that I (hope) I will never need.

Just my short tweet in the comments section, caused a complete stranger to go off on me, and call me an Anti-Vaxer. (I’m not), I have NO idea how they got that from my tweet, and neither did others who saw this exchange.

I think…no, I KNOW, many of us type things that we would never say otherwise.

On the interwebs, we see our “friends” getting promotions, getting nice things for their birthdays, eating delicious food…having a great day, every day except for the “I’ve got the flu” “My kid got bullied in school” type of posts.

We forget however, that we are not getting the entire story.

A real world friend hurt my feelings on-line ages ago, and I really need to let it go, but it still bugs me.

We were instant messaging, talking about children and his grand kids, and just life in general.

Towards the end, he said he needed to finish up so he could go to bed because, “That’s what we poor working people do.”

It really hurt my feelings and kind of made me mad.

I work hard, and half of my work is unpaid. There isn’t any money in rescuing animals.

And even with my services for Indie Authors, most of my work is free or less than half the cost of what others charge.

(And please don’t think I’m tooting my own horn, I’m just stating that I DO work hard.)

Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying people are being fake on social networks (although we know some are), but really we ALL are just giving brief clips of our lives.

Yes, admittedly, I kind of do live the life of Riley, but I PROMISE you, you would NEVER want the journey I took to get here.

I know what it’s like to be poor.

I know what it’s like to go hungry.

I know what it’s like to be homeless and rely on the kindness of friends.

I made some bad choices in my 20’s. No crime, no hard drugs, but plenty of parties!

I know what it’s like to go without dental care, and to be in agony for days. The ER nurse laughed at me on the phone and hung-up.

Finally, a neighbor in my apartment building told me about a free dental clinic.

I know disappointment, sadness, loss, heartbreak, regret…

but I also know it’s my positive attitude that helps me through everything.

That, and sense of humor.

You see me post great trips, exciting news, a recent success.

What you don’t see very often is my struggle with Graves Disease.

I post about it sometimes. I could post about it every day, truth be told.

But for me, social networking is kind of like the local small bar you go to for quick drink. You know, the quiet bar where maybe the jukebox is playing softly in the background and whatever sport of the season is on the tv. Where you go to unwind from the hectic day.

I don’t want my socializing on the inter-webs to be a chapter in the bitch and moan society book.

You could say it’s my fault for not sharing this more-and that is true-but it’s not what I want to share all of the time, because most days I do my best to not focus on my disease and how I feel.

Remember, everyone is free to use their FB, Twitter, Instagram, etc. however they choose.

Most of us prefer to keep it happy for the most part.

And that’s not being dishonest.

It’s wisely choosing what you want to share and what you don’t.

But, my point is…

don’t just assume everything is sunshine and roses for someone just because that’s all they post.

I share with you the successes of the horse and cat rescues, but I don’t share the failures.

Why?

Because you already know bad things happen to animals.

And, in the rescue business, focusing on the positive is a MUST or you wouldn’t be able to do it for very long.

I share with you the joys and frustrations of parenting, but I haven’t shared the huge learning curve, or the insane paperwork, or the terror of going before a judge in another country proving you can provide for the children.

I don’t share with you how invasive it is to have state side social workers examine your home, lifestyle, health, religion (or lack of), habits, hobbies, marital relationship, personality, mental health, etc. etc. just to get approved to adopt.

I don’t tell you these things, because simply…I don’t want to.

Life is hard, and I try to put my problems aside and try to give people a laugh on my social networks.

Just…

Just remember that we all have struggles you will never know about.

And respect that.

Remember that some like to share more of their journey than others.

And that’s okay.

I wish everyone a great day, and a Happy New Year!

WINTER WONDERFUL

Winter is the hardest season for my skin. I’ve been on a lifelong search for products that actually work.

I was given a gift card to Sephora for Christmas, and I went on-line to shop, as I knew it would be ages for me to find time to actually get to a physical store.

After adding things to my cart, I was able to select several free samples, and once my order arrived, boy did they impress!

So much so, that I’ve already ordered the full size of some of these items.

BELIF AQUA BOMB

I chose this sample based on the name and the great reviews.

Aqua bomb? That sounds exactly like what my face needs! Moisture!

After doing my usual face cleansing, I put this on my face and it felt amazing. No weird or perfumed scent either.

I think I put on too much product, but it did all absorb within 15 minutes.

I woke up this morning to smooth skin, and I cannot feel my forehead wrinkles, which are pretty massive.

Except for the edges of one super deep forehead wrinkle, the appearance of them has been greatly minimized, and my deepest wrinkle has been fairly minimized.

This is after one use, so I’m super impressed!

LIPS

Ah, my dry and cracked lips. An endless battle

I got a Bite Beauty sample with my order. It came with a small amount of Sugar Scrub, and a small amount of Agave Lip Mask.

It comes in several different tints and also clear.

I was not impressed with the Sugar Scrub at all. It felt amazing while I was using it, but I saw zero results.

Now, the sample of the Agave Lip Mask was very, very small, but I was able to get two uses out of it.

I used it once in the afternoon, and then again before I went to bed.

I feel like I have brand new lips!

I ordered the full size, and I believe it should last a long while before I have to purchase more.

Now, onto the search for hand lotion and body lotion!

I prefer body oils myself, how about you?

What do you use? Do you have any suggestions for me?

Now, I also ordered this Primary Raw DoYou 2Step Face Therapy. I am going to try it over the New Year holiday and come back to you with my thoughts.

If you shop Sephora, be sure to sign up with your e-mail so you can earn beauty points.

Remember, free samples are also available with your on-line order, and if you go to a brick and mortar store, just ask one of the employees, and they will be more than happy to give you samples.

Remember to take care of yourself inside and out, luvs!

“New Year, New Me” blah blah blah…yeah, right

The “New Year, New Me” BS is getting ready to start, and here I am ready to jump on the band wagon

again.

Too early?

Have you thought about your resolutions for the New Year yet?

😉

I am always hopeful when a new year approaches, but hey, I’m hopeful almost every moment of my life!

It is so very easy to fall into the “same shit, different day,” pattern, and I feel confident enough to say that many of us discard our resolutions by week two.

At my beautiful age of 48, I have finally started to understand the Less is More train of thought.

Right now we are actively trimming down around our house.

The number of things we don’t use or have forgotten about is appalling.

The number of things we have kept, ‘Just in case’, is ridiculous.

With such an active life, it is hard to keep up with things, and I’m sick to death of dusting knick-knacks that our eyes have become so used to, we never notice them unless they are in our way or the cats knock them over.

We honestly don’t even need half of the furniture we have.

It is time to throw stuff out and donate the useful things.

I love this quote below:

“If you want a golden rule that will fit everything, this is it: Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.”
― William Morris

Sit down for this next part, because if you know anything about me, you KNOW I love my clothes, skin care and makeup products!

I AM TRIMMING ALL OF THOSE DOWN TOO!

I do NOT need five pairs of black dress pants.

I do NOT need 50 shades of red lipstick!

I do NOT need all of these clothes!

Now, on my leggings, I’m going to have to keep ALL of those! Sorry, maybe next year I will donate some. (ha,ha no)

I draw the line at giving up any of my leggings.

In my house, we value time.

Time together,

time to enjoy your own interests,

time to just…be…

I seriously want to minimize as much as possible.

Oh, and socks!

Warm, fuzzy socks, cute socks with cats on them and other unique designs.

I cannot give those up either.

They are functional after all, right?

For our tv room I’m thinking of getting rid of the love seat and obnoxiously large chair, and keeping only the couch.

We are such floor and pillow people in my family.

Ugh…and coffee tables and end tables that just collect bits and pieces of our lives…

On another, less materialistic note, my goal for the New Year and the rest of my life, is to live my life in such a way that I do not need to make any Resolutions.

I want to slow down my life some, and not get involved in so many things.

I want to spend more time with family.

I want to spend more time with my friends, including my on-line only ones.

I want to spend more time sitting with a good book while drinking a hot cup of coffee.

I want to spend more time hiking and horseback riding.

…and spending a weekend doing nothing but watching movies and playing board games with my family.

I realize I do NOT have to do it all.

I realize I do NOT have to be it all.

The years pass by so very quickly, and I think it’s time for ALL of us to re-evaluate what is most important in our lives.

So, how about you?

Any hopes, dreams and plans for the New Year?

As always, I love you and wish the best for you!

I would love your feed back on this as I’m always looking for new ideas!
